Author of the month - Shirley Rose
I am thrilled to introduce the second edition of Handbook of Lunchtime Supervision. The main section offers a range of topics, case studies and training material for lunchtime supervisors, and the second section provides notes for managers. There is new emphasis on encouraging healthy eating, issues for teaching assistants who supervise lunchtimes, and ways lunchtime supervisors contribute to Every Child Matters outcomes.
For 15 years I have been training school staff - mainly lunchtime supervisors and teaching assistants. I became involved when my son's excellent childminder told me about her "other job" as a senior lunchtime supervisor, in which she had received no training. As an experienced social worker, I have an evangelical commitment to the importance of valuing and communicating with children. Any one working with children needs training, valuing and support. I resolved to address this.
